The Seventh-Day Sabbath

August 1846 - 03 April 1847

James and Ellen White had accepted the Sabbath soon after their marriage, solely on the evidence of Scripture called to their attention by a tract written by Joseph Bates.

On Sabbath, April 3, 1847, Ellen was given a significant vision confirming the Sabbath. She saw Jesus ministering in the Most Holy Place, and then the ark was opened to enable her to see its contents. There were the Ten Commandments and the fourth, the Sabbath commandment, was shining; for the Sabbath was set apart. She was shown that the Sabbath is the point at which all humanity must make a decision to serve God or an apostate power.

James White printed 1,000 copies of the vision.
